Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 2025
Introduction
MaxonFlux respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you interact with our software code review services and educational programs.
We're based in Australia and follow the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988. That means your data gets handled according to national standards—not some vague international framework nobody understands.
Important: By using our services, you acknowledge that you've read this policy and understand how we manage your information. If something doesn't sit right with you, reach out before sharing any personal details.
Information We Collect
We gather different types of information depending on how you use our platform. Here's what that actually looks like in practice.
Personal Information You Provide
When you sign up for our learning programs or request code review services, we'll ask for:
- Your full name and email address for account creation
- Phone number if you choose to provide it for support purposes
- Educational background and professional experience to tailor program recommendations
- Payment information processed through secure third-party providers
- Code samples and project files you submit for review
Automatically Collected Data
Our systems log technical information to keep things running smoothly:
- IP addresses and browser types for security monitoring
- Device information and operating system details
- Pages visited and time spent on different sections
- Interaction patterns with learning materials and review feedback
Code and Project Data
This is specific to what we do. When you submit code for review, we store it temporarily on secure servers. We analyse it, provide feedback, then archive it according to retention schedules outlined below.
How We Use Your Information
Everything we collect serves a clear purpose. We don't gather data just to have it sitting around.
Service Delivery
- Processing your code review requests and delivering detailed feedback
- Managing your enrolment in educational programs
- Communicating updates about your projects and learning progress
- Providing technical support when issues arise
Platform Improvement
- Analysing usage patterns to enhance learning materials
- Identifying common code review issues to develop better educational content
- Testing new features with anonymised data sets
- Optimising platform performance based on technical metrics
Legal and Security Obligations
Sometimes we need to use your information to comply with Australian law or protect our services from misuse. This includes fraud prevention, responding to legal requests, and enforcing our terms of service.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We keep your information within our control, but some situations require sharing with trusted partners.
Service Providers
We work with companies that help us operate—payment processors, cloud hosting providers, email service platforms. These partners only access data necessary for their specific functions and are bound by confidentiality agreements.
Educational Partners
If you participate in programs co-delivered with other institutions, we may share relevant academic information with those partners. You'll always know when this applies before you enrol.
Legal Requirements
Australian law might require us to disclose information in response to court orders, subpoenas, or regulatory investigations. We'll notify you when legally permitted to do so.
We never sell your personal information to third parties. That's not our business model, and it never will be.
Your Rights Under Australian Privacy Law
The Privacy Act gives you specific rights over your personal information. Here's how you can exercise them with MaxonFlux.
Access and Correction
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. If something's incorrect or outdated, let us know and we'll fix it. We aim to respond within 30 days of receiving your request.
Deletion Requests
You can ask us to delete your personal information, though some data might need to stay on file for legal or contractual reasons. For example, financial records must be retained for tax purposes under Australian law.
Object to Processing
If you believe we're using your information in ways that don't align with this policy, you can object. We'll review your concerns and respond with either an explanation or a change in how we handle your data.
Withdraw Consent
When we process information based on your consent rather than another legal basis, you can withdraw that consent anytime. This might affect our ability to provide certain services, but the choice is yours.
Data Security Measures
We take protection seriously because code review work involves intellectual property and sensitive project details.
Technical Safeguards
- Encryption in transit using TLS 1.3 protocols
- Encryption at rest for all stored code and personal data
- Multi-factor authentication for account access
- Regular security audits and penetration testing
- Isolated environments for code analysis to prevent cross-contamination
Organisational Measures
- Staff training on data protection principles
- Access controls limiting who can view sensitive information
- Incident response procedures for potential breaches
- Regular backups with secure off-site storage
Despite these measures, no system is completely impenetrable. If a breach occurs that affects your information, we'll notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by law.
Data Retention Periods
We don't keep information longer than necessary. Here's how long different types of data stick around.
Account Information
Active account details remain accessible while you use our services. After account closure, we retain basic information for seven years to comply with Australian financial record-keeping requirements.
Code Submissions
Submitted code stays in our systems for 90 days after review completion. You can download your files anytime during this period. After that, we permanently delete the code unless you've opted into our portfolio archive service.
Learning Progress Data
Educational records remain available for three years after program completion, allowing you to reference past work and track long-term development.
Communication Records
Email correspondence and support tickets are archived for two years to maintain service continuity and resolve potential disputes.
International Data Transfers
Our primary servers are located in Australia, but some service providers operate infrastructure in other countries.
When your information crosses borders, we ensure adequate protection through:
- Contractual clauses requiring equivalent privacy standards
- Selecting providers in jurisdictions with robust data protection laws
- Encryption for all international data transmission
- Regular compliance assessments of overseas partners
You can request specific details about where your data is processed by contacting our privacy team.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies to keep the platform functional and understand how people interact with our content.
Essential Cookies
These keep you logged in and remember your preferences. They're necessary for the service to work, so they're not optional.
Analytics Cookies
We track which features get used most often and where people encounter difficulties. This helps us improve the learning experience. You can opt out through your account settings.
Third-Party Cookies
Some embedded content from external platforms might set their own cookies. We limit this where possible, but integrated video tutorials or documentation tools sometimes require it.
Children's Privacy
Our services target professionals and students typically aged 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
If you're between 13 and 18, you should have a parent or guardian review this policy before using our platform. If we discover we've inadvertently gathered data from someone under 13, we'll delete it immediately.
Changes to This Policy
Privacy practices evolve alongside technology and regulations. When we update this policy, the "Last Updated" date at the top changes.
Significant changes—like new data collection practices or altered retention periods—will trigger an email notification to active users. You'll have 30 days to review the changes before they take effect.
Continuing to use our services after that period indicates acceptance of the updated terms.
Making a Complaint
If you believe we've mishandled your personal information, you can file a complaint directly with us. We'll investigate and respond within 30 days.
Not satisfied with our response? You have the right to escalate the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
